Research Assignment 2
Compilation and Initial Data Analysis

The goal of this assignment is to push students to gather data for each of their four districts, and begin to analyze these data. This will help students begin to identify patterns and arguments as well as areas where they need more information. Hint: It may be helpful to make timelines for each district and search for information before and after significant policy changes or events in the District and/or State. Finally, remember that your paper will focus on DEI or health mitigation. Students will pick only one.

Part A, Source Annotations: Conduct annotations of at least 3 data sources for each District. Data sources can include School Board meetings, policy-related statements/ documents, newspaper articles, and other media related to the policy debates and conversations in your District and State. Your annotations should include a citation for each source followed by a 1-3 paragraph description of key information from this source. Students are encouraged to include evidence, such as direct quotes, in their annotations.

Part B, Preliminary Analysis: Describe any preliminary patterns you identified in your data.What are the specific types of perspectives, debates, and issues? Is there variation across districts/states? Students are encouraged to provide evidence for your claims, including direct quotes from news articles, board meetings, or other media.

Part C, Data Evaluation and Next Steps: Describe the quality of data you have gathered for each District and what additional information you still need to identify. Here list any challenges you have encountered in the process.
