C​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍​aring relationships are a critical element of classroom management (Marzano et al., 2003; Milner et al., 2019). It is important to show your students that you care about them as people, and also foster healthy relationships between students. The purpose of this assignment is to help you think through how you will go about explicitly building rapport with your students not only during the first 2-3 weeks of school, but throughout the school year. How will you get to know your students? What activities will you use to build rapport between students? What will you share about yourself with them? Because you are writing about your own future practices, first person is most appropriate for this paper. Please use “I” throughout and avoid the use of “you” or “teachers” (i.e., this should not be written like a “how-to” manual for building relationships).Begin by reviewing the research on relationships from our readings. Why are they important? Then create three artifacts that you can use in your classroom both at the beginning of the year and throughout the year to build relationships between you and your students and between students themselves. These artifacts must be included in their entirety and could be instructions for a team-building activity, a bio poem, an activity in which you will share information about yourself, or other activities that will help you connect with your students​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍​ and help them connect with each other. Each activity should either be annotated or include a paragraph of explanation regarding how it connects to the research on relationships.
