Project Description:
This project involves building a discrete event simulation (DES) model, using Simul8 software, of the clinical pathway for use of the innovative Cytosponge
(produced by Cambridge Uni) test in upper gastrointestinal (Upper GI) examinations. The main goal of the project is to use the simulation model for a microcosting analysis to compare the Cytosponge test with conventional Upper GI endoscopy.
Literature Review should be around 6,000 words and have around 25-30 papers/references.
We have to explain:
1) The use of modelling (D.E.S and S.D) in medicine/ clinical pathways ech. In general, to give some background information
2) How endoscopy of upper gastrointestinal (Upper GI) is used in the uk. Any insights about number of patients, costing etch, effectiveness etc.
3) How Cytosponge test is used in the UK Any insights about number of patients, costing etch, effectiveness etc.
4) The use of DES in depth (Focus on simul8 software) in medical mentioning Strengths, weaknesses, limitations ech.. (important)
5) Economic evaluation and costing in medicine. (for example how an medical service is costed) (important)
6) How modelling is used in medicine to curry out micro-costing analysis in medical services (Most important part).
