Case Study

Case 349826792 Falls and Frailty
In this assignment 6 : You are expected to cite a minimum of 5 references from your module content or academic journals.
Mr Tan, aged 64, is a part-time cashier. He has no known medical history. He lives alone in a 3-room HDB flat, with no lift-landing on the 3rd floor. His part-time job requires him to stand for long hours and pack heavy items (e.g. detergents, rice packets). Though he walks independently, he often worries about sustaining a fall. A few times, Mr Tan almost fell due to tripping over curbs or mini-obstructions along the walkways. In addition, he recently noticed that he is walking much slower than before and feels tired easily. He occasionally experiences mild breathlessness and complains of lower limb weakness. Thinking that this is part of the normal ageing process, Mr Tan went to the doctor to ask for medicine to improve his cardiovascular fitness and strengthen his lower limbs. To his surprise, the doctor certified Mr Tan fit to begin an exercise programme and referred him to a Senior Care Centre at his void deck for follow up. Under the supervision of the centre’s physiotherapist, apply what you have learnt in this module to help Mr Tan achieve his goals.
