RNSG 1362 APA Research Activity – Evidence Based Practice

Objectives:

After researching and writing this activity, students will learn to:
• Research and investigate a topic important in nursing practice.
• Search reputable nursing journals and databases.
• Write a title page in APA format.
• Write a reference list in APA format.
• Write an in-text citation in APA format.

Instructions:

Before you begin, assure a thorough understanding of APA format, as it is different than MLA. APA is now in its 7th edition; confirm you are using the most current format and review the changes. There is a plethora of resources online and in the library. You may contact the Librarian for clarifications.
• Choose a topic in nursing ethics or evidence-based practice in nursing.
• Research recent (less than 5 years) nursing journals/publications to gather your data.
• There are to be five (5) entries within the Resource page.

Examples of Ethics topics include:

•Advocacy and moral agency
•Advance directives
•Code of ethics
•Cultural diversity
•End of life
•Family-centered care
•Informed consent
•Moral distress
•Patients’ rights
•Palliative care
•Religion/spirituality

Examples of Evidence-Based Topics in Clinical Practice include:

•New developments, advancements or updates on nursing care, treatments or procedures
•Nursing shortage
•Patient-focused staffing approach
•Best practices for acute and critical care conditions
•Critical care pharmacology
•New diagnostic tests
•Advances in any form of patient monitoring
•Nursing care of patients with specific critical care health problems
•Care of the critically ill obstetric and postpartum patient
•Providing critical care nursing services in nontraditional care sites such as ambulatory care, community and home care settings
•Multidisciplinary collaboration in managing patient care
•Care plans, critical pathways and patient care protocols for critical care
•Point-of-care testing

Title page: APA format; make sure you include your title, clinical instructors name and credentials, and date. A running head and page number for every page.
Paper: APA format; Paper is a one (1) to two (2) page SUMMARY of your main article. Include an introduction and conclusion paragraph. Must contain at least one (1) in-text citation.
Reference list: APA format; Five (5) Nursing Journals or publications. Must be current (less than 5 years). Any source format is acceptable including online journals, publications, videos etc. Use of textbooks is also acceptable.

Submitting: Submit your paper via the appropriate drop box in your clinical course on D2L. *** Include a copy of the main article that your topic is about. Highlight the portion of the article in which your research is focused. If this is not included; you receive a “0” zero on the assignment. Only 1 submission will be accepted; no resubmissions will be accepted. ***
Assignment Due Date: Monday, March 28, 2022 at 0800 via D2L drop box. 10 points will be deducted per day for late submissions. No submissions will be accepted after Wednesday, March 30, 2020 @ 08:00 a.m.
