Since you already know about the body structure of a song, including time
signature, measurement, genre, tempo, dynamics, instrumentation, form, parts…
and you have used these skills to analyze other songs, now is the time to create
something with your gained knowledge.
Using the “Music Maker Jam” software (available for all operating systems,
except Mac below OS 11) you will create an original music piece.

Your composition will be based on:
1. Your composition must follow this form:
a. Intro (2, 4 or 8 bars)
b. Verse (4, 8 or 16 bars)
c. Chorus (4, 8 or 16 bars)
d. Verse (4, 8 or 16 bars)
e. Chorus (4, 8 or 16 bars)
f. Bridge (4, 8 or 16 bars)
g. Chorus (4, 8 or 16 bars)
h. Outro (2, 4 or 8 bars)
2. If you feel creative and think that your composition needs more parts (pre-chorus,
post-chorus, interlude, etc), you may add parts to your composition, but you CAN
NOT subtract any (meaning: your composition must have all of the parts from “1.”
in that order, you can add parts in between, but must not take out any).
3. The length of the parts should be proportional to the tempo (meaning: if it’s very
fast don’t make it 2 bars, if it’s very slow don’t make it 16 bars per part).
4. The genre of your composition can be selected from one of the 257 styles that can
be found in the program. You will explain your choice in the essay. (Note that
you can select only three genres/styles for free. Before selecting the
ones you like you can check them out first).
5. The instrumentation, tempo and dynamics are not fixed, they are left up to your
creativity.
6. You will write a short essay in which you will explain in details all of the elements
in your composition, their place, purpose and effect. Everything that we studied
and covered in the four analyses so far should be implemented as an approach to
writing your essay. (Genre, its characteristics and your implementation of them
or/and avoidment;tempo; time signature; parts, number of bars; form/structure
key concept; development of Verse, Chorus and Bridge; pulsation/accent;
instruments; dynamics; etc.) You need to include the styles used from
Music Maker Jam. The essay in the end should have your evaluation and
reflection.
Process Journal:
1. You will submit a Process Journal in which you will record the
development of your artwork and your own development as an artist. It
is important to record not only finished creations but also your
thoughts, processes and your research as you work, and your reflections
afterwards. The Process Journal should demonstrate evidence of
process, product, evaluation and awareness. Anything that shows the
work you have been doing in class, should be included. In ‘Inside the
Music’ the Process Journal is a record of the creative processes
experienced and techniques applied in analyzing music and creating a
music composition.
This is all from the teacher. Now come my instructions to
make everything clearer.
Basically, this order consists of three parts: a song made on Music
Maker Jam (click on it), an essay about it (2-3 pages..), and a
process journal. In the process journal youll be talking about this
whole assignment, how you did it, what research you had done, etc…
all you can think of, add it to the process journal. Make enough and
many entries for the journal. You know what it is right?
The essay and process journal should be on separate documents! You
can also add images in the PROCESS JOURNAL to make it look
better and more creative!!!! Please!
Also, you can see that on the website Music Maker Jam, you can
record the song, so you should also do that, after finishing it of
course.

the TEACHER, you can see that he’s talking about some 4 analyses.
We had done them as homeworks, but they have nothing to do with
this assessment.
