The assignment question:
Analyse this artwork following a formalist approach:

· Write a short introduction where you explain what you will be discussing in the essay.

· Define and explain formal analysis.

· Describe and define the elements of art. Explain the elements with reference to your chosen artwork.

· Describe and define the principles of design. Explain the principles with reference to your chosen artwork.

· Explain how the artists used the elements of art and principles of design to create meaning in the artwork.

· Formulate a conclusion, based on the argument exposed and clarified in the main body of your text. This is not the place to introduce new information. A conclusion provides your final answer to the assignment question and must be kept concise and highly relevant.

· Your essay should be approximately 1000 to 1200 words.

Guidance:
· Do not write in bullet point format, or rewrite the questions. Your answer should be in essay format as explained above.

· You may refer to the study guide (online lessons), and other sources, but please make sure you reference them correctly as per TL301/ARHALLY. You may also use books that you may have or have found in the library.

· Please proofread your work, making sure that it is free from typos, spelling and language errors, and that your writing makes sense.
