Background: In chapter 7, you will learn about independent reading instruction. Just like learning to play piano or basketball, reading requires practice! Students need to spend a considerable amount of time reading, both at home and at school. This chapter offers a wealth of resources for providing students with valuable, independent reading opportunities.
To prepare for MB#7, here is what you should do:
• Read chapter 7. It’s not enough to “skim” the chapter. Please read carefully.

After you have read chapter 7 and watched the two videos, please create and post a “Top 7” list. Follow the instructions and format below carefully. To make your post reader friendly, please number your list, add a space between each item, and use bold/regular font, quotation marks, and page numbers/time stamps, as exemplified below.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR “TOP 7” LIST (5 tidbits will come from the chapter and 2 from the videos – Read instructions carefully!)
1. Please select FIVE different “tidbits” (or important take-aways) that stood out to you in chapter 7. These statements should be 1-2 sentences long and direct quotes from the text. Use quotation marks and include page number(s) to identify where you found each quote.
2. Follow each statement/quote from the chapter with a 1-2 sentence reflection. (For example, consider why did you select this statement? what is its significance? how will it impact your teaching and/or students’ learning)
3. Please select ONE “take-away” (main point) from EACH of the videos. These should be 1-2 sentences each and direct quotes from the videos. Use quotation marks and include time stamp. It may be easier to capture the quote if you turn on the Closed Caption (CC) feature – see bottom right corner of the video window.
4. Follow each statement/quote from the videos with a 1-2 sentence reflection. (For example, consider why did you select this statement? what is its significance? how will it impact your teaching and/or students’ learning)
