Topic: Conflict Theory

Instructions:

1. Theory Reaction Paper: As we work our way through the groups of theories in class, you may find yourself thinking “This theory makes good sense to me!”. Write a 2 to 3 page paper reflecting on why you are attracted to this theory (or group of related theories). First, read the Siegel paper (Theory is Personal) carefully and reflect on his ideas. No, seriously, read Siegel first.

2. Please discuss Karl Marx and how is Conflict Theory impacts social inequalities. Discuss why Jarl Marx theory is so important. Also tie into the paper that the reason why I am attracted by this theory is because Conflict Theory can still be implied to today’s society when it comes to social injustice and the differences in the social classes.

3. After you have read Siegel, clearly describe what experiences, personal traits and beliefs, religious or cultural perspectives, or other factors influenced your attraction to this theory. (I am a African American Christian woman who believes in the equal rights of all people despite our cultural differences. You can tied into the paper however you like)

4. Connect these to the tenets of theory and its approach to practice. You must be specific, clear, and thoughtful in making these connections. The paper should be clearly organized and well-edited but need not apply APA style unless you cite a source that isn’t part of the class materials. You do not need to cite course materials, including readings.

5. Try to obtain 3 to 5 references. No direct quotations are allowed. Make sure your work is clear, organized, well-edited, and follows the instructions given above and in the syllabus.
