RESEARCH ESSAY – OUTLINE AND REFERENCES INSTRUCTIONS
You will complete an outline for the second part of the research essay project. The outline must include your thesis statement, the three main points or issues being addressed, how much space will be allotted for each section of the paper (# words), and a preliminary reference list of at least 2 scholarly sources (that are less than 10 years old) in addition to our text book. Helpful links from the Online Writing Center are included at the bottom of this document.

Outline
The outline format should be presented in an alphanumeric manner. This outline is most often used when preparing a traditional essay. Since your research essay must include an introduction paragraph with a thesis statement, 3 body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph, make sure that you include those in your outline. Additionally, as in the discussion board assignments, include some biblical integration to support a Christian worldview of the topic.

Try to imagine that your outline represents the points you would like to make in your essay.

Example:

I. Introduction paragraph. Thesis: The moon landings really happened. (100 words)

II. First argument: The moon rocks are different than anything on earth. (150 words)
A. The Argument for: They are made out of elements that are not found on
earth.
B. The Argument against: Conspiracy theorists say that they are meteors made
to look like moon rocks.
C. The Rebuttal: That is unlikely because they are thousands of moon rocks
and only a few hundred meteors have ever landed on the earth.

III. Second Argument: Neil Armstrong is a trustworthy eyewitness. (150 words)
A. The Argument For: Everyone who knows Mr. Armstrong say he has good
character.
B. The Argument Against: Armstrong lied because he was paid off by the
government.
C.The Rebuttal: Armstrong’s lifestyle never changed after the moon landing, so
he probably was not paid off.

IV. Third Argument: (150 words)
A. Supporting point 1
B. Supporting point 2
C. Supporting point 3

V. Conclusion (100 words)

Your outline should also include an APA reference list on a separate page.
Quotes within the outline must also utilize current APA in-text citations.
