Assignment Brief
As part of the formal assessment for the programme you are required to submit a Skills
for Learning in Care assignment. Please refer to your Student Handbook for full details
of the programme assessment scheme and general information on preparing and
submitting assignments.
Learning Outcomes:
After completing the module, you should be able to:
1. Identify the skills required within the workplace, and illustrate their use and
application, particularly within a management and/or practitioner context.
2. Identify personal qualities and transferable skills necessary for employability and
further study and use methods of enquiry to explore personal development
opportunities and related issues.
3. Identify, retrieve and evaluate discipline specific material for a given purpose and
use such material appropriately.
4. Demonstrate the ability to communicate discipline specific information in an
appropriate form as specified.
Graduate Attribute:
Manage employability, utilising the skills of personal development and planning in different
contexts to contribute to society and the workplace.

Please note that exceeding the word count by over 10% will result in a reduction in grade
by the same percentage that the word count is exceeded.
You must not include your name in your submission because Arden University operates
anonymous marking, which means that markers should not be aware of the identity of the

Assignment Task
This assignment is worth 100% of the total marks for the module
You are required to compile a portfolio of material that highlights your learning and
development.
Note that you should introduce the portfolio with an overview of your approach and
conclude with a summary of the parts.
Your portfolio should be a maximum 3000 words excluding the cover page, table of
contents, introduction, conclusion, reference list and necessary appendices. It may be
submitted as either a MS Word or Adobe Acrobat document.
The portfolio should be word processed as a SINGLE document for all parts of this
assignment and include a table of contents with page numbers on each page as a footer.
Your Student Identity Number should appear as a header.
Review your activity notes, blogs, reflective and study notes as a basis for your work.
Refer to the online course material and answers to online activities to refresh your
memory.
There are three tasks:
Task One
This task is about reviewing sources of information about the topic; ‘The importance of
Emotional Intelligence in health care.’ You will need to find two websites, one journal
article, and one textbook that contain information on the topic.
Under the heading of each resource you have found, give a brief summary of each one,
then evaluate it for its currency, credibility (experience of authors, whether it is peer
reviewed or not etc), scope and intended audience.

Task Two
This task should be presented as an essay. For this task use the resources you found in
task 1 (the two websites, the journal article and the text book) plus any additional sources
you feel are relevant to discuss and evaluate your topic of ‘The importance of Emotional
Intelligence in health care.’ In your response, ensure that you discuss and give an indepth account of the five dimensions/components of emotional intelligence
(Ensure you use citation in your writing to acknowledge sources of information)

Task Three
Develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) for your program of study which should
reflect your personal qualities and transferable skills necessary for employability. The PDP
should be structured as follows:
❖ Introduction
❖ Your personal vision and goal
❖ Your ideal future job role
❖ Your current Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats (SWOT) analysis
❖ State four objectives which should reflect how your goals may be met. Show that
your objectives are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timed (SMART)
❖ An action plan to achieve the objectives
❖ Resources required for your action plan
❖ A short discussion of risks that may affect your action plan, and how you might
deal with them, should they arise.

feedback.
The feedback is designed to help you develop areas of your work and to help you develop
your skills as an independent learner. Any feedback given at this stage is NOT final
feedback and should not be taken as such.
If you are a distance learning student, you should submit your work, by email, to your
tutor, no later than 2 weeks before the actual submission deadline. If you are a blended
learning student, your tutor will give you a deadline for formative feedback and further
details
Formative feedback will not be given to work submitted after the agreed dates.

Your assessment should be submitted as a single Word (MS Word) or PDF file. For more

Level 4 is the first stage on the student journey into undergraduate study. At Level 4 students will be developing their knowledge and understanding of the discipline and will be expected to demonstrate some of those skills and competences.
Student are expected to express their ideas clearly and to structure and develop academic arguments in their work. Students will begin to apply the theory which underpins the subject and will start to explore how this relates to other areas
of their learning and any ethical considerations as appropriate. Students will begin to develop self-awareness of their own academic and professional development.
