What is a case study?
A case is a current issue or controversy facing a specific group of people or island nation.
By studying the issue or controversy in detail, you begin to see broader themes such as power, sovereignty,
nation-building, colonialism, resistance, cultural change, assimilation, structural inequality, etc.
Example: Mauna Kea and the TMT (podcast from Wk3)
What is the issue/controversy? (where things stand now and relevant history)
Who is affected and how? (e.g., Pacific Islanders in Oregon–see below)
What are the arguments of the various factions?
What are the larger themes this does case illustrate?
Who/what are your sources?
Why does this topic interest you?
