This is a photo essay. Instead of writing an essay, you will “show” an essay with photos (or other visual
media), quotations from your text, and written captions to accompany the visuals. You will work with the
interplay of textual and visual expression to establish and support a thesis based on your understanding of
your Cultural Heritage & Human Relationships text.

The essay should consist of an introduction, at least three body paragraphs and a conclusion.
The introduction should provide the reader with specific information such as what text(s) is the focus of the
essay and what aspects of the overarching subject (Cultural Heritage & Human Relationships) will be
explored.
A thesis statement, or answer to the essential question, should guide the organizational pattern of the
essay and should come at the end of the introduction.
The body paragraphs should contain at least one claim, multiple pieces of evidence (at least one quotation
or paraphrase) from the book and extra-textual evidence (images) based on the writer’s experience,
observations, or studies.
The conclusion should bring the reader to a broader understanding of the overarching subject (Cultural
Heritage & Human Relationships) rather than simply restating what has already been discussed throughout
the essay.
Textual evidence must be cited according to MLA Style 8th Edition and be coordinated with the full source
on a Works Cited page at the end of the essay.
Essay must be at least 5 slides (not including the works cited) and be formatted in MLA Style
