Write a 3-chapter, 8-10 page, 12-font paper with the following components: • Chapter 1 – Introduction o What is the problem? o Why is the problem important? o State your research question. o How does your study (Review of Literature) relate to previous work in the area, i.e. will it answer questions, resolve inconsistent findings in previous research, add to the body of knowledge in a specific area about a specific population, e.g. pre-school children, immigrants, African Americans, etc. o State your hypothesis/hypotheses. o If your hypothesis/hypotheses has/have a theoretical basis, state that theoretical basis along with its implications. o If there is no theoretical basis for your hypothesis/hypotheses, then state the practical implications, i.e. what would be the impact if you should prove your hypothesis/hypotheses? • Chapter 2 – Literature Review. It should include: o An overview of the subject, issue or theory under consideration, along with the objectives of the literature review. o Division of works under review into categories (e.g. those in support of a particular position, those against, and those offering alternative theses entirely). o Explanation of how each work is similar to and how it varies from the others. o Conclusions as to which pieces are best considered in their argument, are most convincing of their opinions, and make the greatest contribution to the understanding and development of their area of research. o Use transitions to help to keep your essay coherent. o Use subheadings especially if your review is long. o Your literature review should not just cover a collection of studies. It is more than a description, it is an analysis, which means that you have to dig deeper. Evaluate, measure and compare your sources. In analyzing the studies consider such things as sample size, how the samples were selected, etc. Were there any other possible explanations for some of the findings other than those the authors gave? o Chapter 3 – Discussion o Include one or two paragraphs summarizing your findings.. • o Was your hypothesis supported by the literature? o If your hypothesis was not supported offer explanations for why not. o Were there any potential sources o Were there any issues/facts that you did not consider when you formulated your hypothesis? o Suggestions of areas that need further research and why. o A commentary on the importance of your findings and/or your research, i.e. how/what does it contribute to the larger society or to the population that you studies. (What is the practical significance of the findings and/or study and on what do you base this?) o What problems remain unresolved?
