Write an essay about Sectionalism in early American history. Start by:
A) defining sectionalism, then
B) compare Northern and Southern views on slaves (review Lecture 10, slides #1-21); and
C) contrast their different ways of life regarding economics (e.g. free labor vs. slave labor), culture, and religious beliefs, such as how slavery divided northern and southern churches); and finally
D) summarize how sectionalism effected politics, particularly the Missouri statehood problem and Missouri Compromise, the divisive Election of 1824, and the eventual influence of the “common man” and rise of the Jacksonian Democrats by 1828.
Answers must be 3-5 paragraphs in essay format including an introduction, body, and conclusion.
