10-to-15-page paper based on the following question: How and why did conflicts around papal authority/primacy in the eastern Mediterranean influence Urban II’s call to crusade?
This paper should explore a sophisticated historical question and analyze evidence from primary and secondary sources to draw conclusions.
Also note that the page count applies to the actual text of the essay and excludes the bibliography. Your paper should have 1” margins, a title page or heading that includes the title of the paper, name of the author, course title and number, name of
the professor, and the date, and be double-spaced in 12-point Times (or similar) font.
The paper must cite at least five primary sources and five secondary sources. Note that all secondary sources must be scholarly; do not use popular histories, encyclopedias, or websites (check with me if in doubt).
You must cite all references to sources in Chicago Notes and Bibliography format. Do not use ‘Ibid’ for repeated references. Shortened footnotes should be used.
