Research Paper (Strategies and Tactics)
In this paper you will use the ecological model to put together concepts we have studied throughout this course.
Search the library and find an article that thoroughly describes a health promotion program that uses interventions to try and change health behaviors in the context of an ecological model.
• Identify 2 strategies and 1 tactic per strategy that the program used. Have each of the strategies address a different level of the ecological model (since you have 2 strategies you will be explaining 2 levels of the ecological model in detail).
• Cover these areas in the paper:
• Brief overview of the ecological model
• Explanation of program you chose and ecological model that is the framework for the program
• What health behavior is the program trying to change?
• Why is it important to try and change that health behavior? (incidence & prevalence of issues that could occur due to health behavior)
• Detail how each of the 2 strategies addressed 2 different levels of the ecological model (1 strategy addresses 1 level)
• Detail 2 strategies and 1 tactic/strategy implemented in the program
• Evaluate each strategy and tactic
• 5-7 pages content double-spaced, APA, title page, reference page
Rubric
|
Exceptional (full points per section) |
Acceptable (1/2 points per section) |
Not Acceptable (0 points) |
Overview ecological model 10 point |
Clear overview of ecological model: what the model is and how it works |
Overview of model not complete |
No overview of ecological model |
Explanation of program you chose & ecological model framework 10 points |
Clear explanation of program & framework |
Explanation unclear or demonstrates lack of understanding |
No explanation |
Health behavior & target population 10 points |
Name health behavior the program is focused on changing, name target population program focused on |
Missing 1 |
Missing both |
Analyzes health behavior’s impact if not changed (how far reaching is the health behavior? What would negative health consequences of continuing the behavior be – incidence & prevalence? Why is the target population appropriate for the intervention?). Include supporting data. 10 points |
Thorough analysis of health behavior’s potential negative consequences and appropriateness of intervention with target population |
Attempt to analyze health behavior’s potential negative consequence does not include supporting data or is incomplete |
No analysis |
Explain 2 strategies & 2 tactics 10 pts |
Explains how 2 tactics are used to fulfill the aims of 2 strategies in the program |
Missing part of explanation |
No explanation |
Explain 2 levels of ecological model the program is trying to intervene on 10 pts |
Details how each strategy aims to intervene on a level of the ecological model & why that is an appropriate strategy for that ecological model level |
States levels of ecological model but does not explain how the strategy is appropriate for the level of the model |
No explanation |
