FINAL PROJECT
Final Project: TikTok Challenge

For your final project, you will each create a TikTok-style video and do a short write-up that reflects on your video and how it relates with themes from this course.

You may use TikTok, Instagram Reels, Vine (RIP), or any other platform to create your project. You can also use Zoom, your computer/ tablet, or your smartphone to record and edit your video. The videos will not be posted on social media. Please download your file in a format that can be uploaded to a Google Drive folder. We will view them from Google Drive for grading. Feel free to view each other’s works and leave supportive comments!

Video Guidelines:
• Your main video must respond to M. Butterfly, Madame Butterfly, or any of the theoretical content from the course(Characters from Antigone, Hedda Gabler). If you choose to make additional TikToks, you may respond to any of the plays, or content from the course.
• Your video(s) must be 15 sec to 3 mins in length. If you choose to make several short videos, the total run time of all videos should not exceed 5 mins.
• Feel free to use different TikTok trends, sounds, filters, etc. Just be thoughtful about why you are choosing the trend, etc.
• This video must be original content. Be creative! Try to avoid replicating something that has already been done (unless it is a trend). Your creative work should be your own.
• Please try to appear in the video in some way. This is your time to shine! Yes, voice-over counts.
• Below is a list of recommended/ pre-approved video ideas. While these topics are already very broad, should you feel inspired to take on a more “out-of-the-box” idea, please contact me (or Tiffany) for approval.

Recommended Video Ideas:
1. Think about Themes
• Consider the themes of the play. Create a video inspired by these themes.
o You may link this to a song/audio that has a similar theme – For example, what kind of song/trend would Creon use if he/they were on TikTok today.
o Use your favorite creative medium to address themes from the play and express them on video.
• Are there theoretical themes that you connected with in the course? What are they? Create a video reacting to these ideas. You might consider expressing these things through visual arts, music, playlist creation, performing arts, crafting, fashion, makeup trends, cooking videos, food etc.
2. Critical Lenses
• Review the play. Give us your hot take.
o You can choose to do this review creatively. Some ideas include: “get ready with me” videos, 10 things from the play that just make sense (or don’t), etc.

3. Pretend Playwright
• Get creative with literary analysis by assuming the role of the playwright. Explain choices made in character development, key scenes, storylines, etc. Imagine what the playwright is responding to, or writing about in their work. (I see this one working well with the “They/I understood the assignment” trend on TikTok)
4. Get in Character
• Devise a video as a character from the play. Share what’s going on in their life from the perspective of the character – who is affecting them, etc.

• Short Essay Format (2 pages)
Use the following questions to help guide your writing. Feel free to address these questions in any order. These are guiding questions, so please feel free to include additional information to contextualize your project.
o ● Briefly describe what your video is about (introduction).
o ● What ideas from class inspired your video? Summarize and cite these ideas
using course readings, theorists, plays, or lecture citations.
o ● Explain your video. Is there meaning behind the trend and/ or theme that you
use in this video? How did you decide what works from class to respond to?
o ● Reflect on the process of making the video: How did you come up with your final
idea? Are there things you would do differently?
o ● What is the most important take-away from your video?
