Mental health for children and adolescents:
MENTAL HEALTH ACT IN LOS ANGELES: there are many directions to take, such as policies and programming specific to the child welfare system; children and adolescents involved in the foster care system; school-based mental health programming and policies; etc. There is a good amount of international, state, and local variation here.
Section 2:
Policy alternatives (each student’s individual part )
Part A: History: (one student writes)
• Describe the history of U.S. policy and practice within your topic area.
• Is what we are doing now—as identified in Section 1 above—what we have always done?
o Have challenges to this policy been raised (in court and/or the legislature)? If so, why did they succeed in altering the policy OR why didn’t they succeed in altering the policy?
Part B: Local and/or state variation: (one student writes)
• Describe current local and/or state variation in policies and practice within your topic area.
• Is there significant local and/or state variation within the U.S.?
• What can be learned from variation of existing policies that can be applied to your issue? (choose 2-3 localities and/or states with variant policies)
Part C: International comparisons: (one student writes)
• Describe the current policy and practice in other rich nations in your topic area. With instructor permission you may also bring in examples from developing nations.
• Is there significant variation across nations and compared to U.S. policy? (as with the state variation, the goal is to learn from international existing policies. Choose 2-3 countries)
Part D: PROP Issues ( should not exceed 2 single-spaced pages) APA STYLE
