Introduction (~150 words)
Write a short introduction to this report here. It should explain the purpose of the project, what you did (e.g., developed a CLD, did systems analysis and simulations), and your key findings. You will be writing your introduction at the time you draft/prepare your final report.
Problem Statement (~25-50 words)
A statement of the problem (unacceptable condition) and why it is significant. (Significant means why it is important and why we care about this problem; what motivates us to take action to solve it as opposed to just being concerned and discussing it.)
Background (~250-300 words)
Describe the context of the problem; the who, what, when, and where discussion. This is a good place to also summarize what efforts have been tried to solve the problem and how well they seemed to work. A problem that is resistant to change and “obvious” solutions indicates a complex systems problem, so your reader needs to know why this problem doesn’t have an easy fix. The background is also where you would discuss what aspects of the system problem are scientific, social, and technical and what the scale of the problem.
Explanation of the system behavior over time. Use your DIGTAL annotated BOTG graph to explain and highlight how this problem has been behaving over time, and what the key non-linear dynamics seem to be. You will also notate hopes and fears on the BOTG and explain what it means.
A Systems Perspective (~500-700 words)
Write a brief systems explanation of the problem. This is a presentation of your structured system model, the CLD Present the CLD as a graphic, explain what it represents as a system model, and discuss its causal dynamics (especially those feedback loops) that are driving the problem.
Modeling the System (~500-700 words)
In this section you introduce your working Stella model of the problem. Because it is not identical to the CLD, you will need to explain what the model is designed to simulate.
Present the Stella model as an image and identify its key stock and flow variables and feedback loops. Discuss the big picture system dynamics that it is modeling, key drivers of the system, and feedback loops. You are basically helping the reader understand what this model is and what its dynamics are.
System Dynamics Analysis
You should start by introducing the key analytical questions that you explored for this part of the portfolio assignment and why. You will also present images of the interface that you created. This will provide the context for your specific modeling work. Explore the various scenarios, stress their advantages and disadvantages, and give the results of the interventions that best seem to mitigate the problem that you are modeling.
Conclusions (1 good paragraph should do it)
Summarize the key findings and conclusions you are able to make about the key analytical questions of the systems dynamics portfolio assignment.
