Directions
Students are to write a 3-5 page personal biography. In this paper, students are required to choose a
minimum of one family theoretical perspective from Chapter Two to engage in a sociological analysis of
one of the following familial themes in their own family: divorce, parenting, marriage, gender, work/family,
family conflict/resilience.
Students are required to choose one of the aforementioned topics to engage in an in-depth analysis of the
selected topic.
Students must academically and critically examine how the selected topic operated within the student’s
family system.
A theoretical framework from Chapter Two is required to guide the analysis of the selected topic. Students
are required to cite the textbook and use key concepts to support their claims with evidence. A lack of
citations will result in a loss of points.
While students are allowed to say “I” within their papers, these papers should be academic and formal in
tone. Students are respected to adhere by the Assignment Standards outlined in the course syllabus. You
are welcome to choose a format, although ASA format is encouraged to gain practice in social scientific
writing. Please note the paper should be double-spaced; the example paper appears single-spaced when
opened on certain devices.
