social judgment theory

For your third written assignment, you will explore the relationship between communication theory and research.

Choose one of the theories listed below:

Cognitive Dissonance Theory of Festinger

For the theory that you choose, locate and read a peer-reviewed journal article that reports original research and explicitly addresses the theory. The article should have been published within the previous 5 years (since 2012). Do not use an article already assigned to be read for class. In your paper, address the following:

Describe the study:

·       Briefly describe the key components of the theory

·      Which of the primary concepts and relationships of the theory does the article test, and how did the go about operationalizing the concept or relationship?

·      List at least one hypothesis or research question.

·      What are the study results, and what do they tell you about the theory?

·      Based on the results, how should the theory be revised (not the study)? Be sure to include both your thoughts and those of the article’s authors.

Your paper should be two to three pages (not including the title or references). Be sure to use 1inch margins on all sides and Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced. Additionally, you should include a cover sheet and reference page within the same Word document. Please use APA 6th edition style.

* Do not use an article from Communication Teacher, as this journal does not print research articles.  To help you confirm that your article includes original research, look for a Methods and a Results section. Do not choose a meta-analysis.
