For this essay, you will include examples that you have gained from reading “external sources,” or “secondary sources″ including in your paper research and
opinions that are available to us through journals, books, etc. Make sure your documentation is correct. You must use in-text citation and a Works Cited page.
Analyze the various characteristics or ideals of love found, or not found, in each of them. Make sure at least one of the poems/poets for each ″side″ has
many secondary sources available. What should /does love consist of, according to the pieces? Then, and this is very important, discuss the significance of
these findings. Why is it significant that some elements are different? The same? What has continued to endure or stay the same? Use 6 secondary scholarly
sources in addition to the poems (primary sources) your essay discusses; remember, these sources MUST be LITERARY analysis, not psychological or
biographical, etc. DO NOT Google sources. Websites like Poetry Foundation or a blog do not count. Additional questions that may help you get started: If
poets’ views on love have changed, how have they changed? Are ideals of love wonderful standards to uphold, ennobling us? Or do they get in the way of a
“real” relationship, encouraging an outdated, oppressive system? How have these ideals changed or been challenged by “more realistic” pieces of literature?
Are “more realistic” pieces more realistic? Are ideals useful even if reality doesn’t match them? Are the traditional ideals completely lost? Remember not to
comment on society in general, but keep your focus on what the two texts you are working with indicate. Must have 6 secondary sources!! and all 6 must be
quoted or paraphrased in the essay. Again, sources cannot be biographical or psychological. .Only literary critical essays or books count. Works Cited page
should include the secondary sources as well as the texts (primary sources) your essay discusses. MLA format
