Quality improvement proposal: IMPROVING NURSING TEAMWORK

Unit 3 – Beyond Policy: Why Healthcare is Always Changing
Nursing Research and QI Project (Exam Grade)

The purpose of this project is to experience a quality improvement process and to aid in meeting the following unit objectives
• Describe ways to use evidence based practice when providing patient care
• Relate the need for evidence in nursing practice
• Discuss the practical nurse’s role in health care quality
• Recognize how quality improvement impacts patient care
• Research sources of evidence based nursing practice

Identifying an Area for Improvement

Think about an area of nursing that you feel could be improved based on your readings, clinical experiences, or work experiences. Then identify one specific area of improvement for your project. Also, as you brainstorm consider the following:
1. What are you trying to accomplish?
2. How will you know that a change is an improvement?
3. What changes can be made that would result in improvement?
Identified Problem:

Setting an Aim

Once the improvement area has been determined, write your aim statement. Ask yourself, “What am I trying to accomplish”?
AIM Statement:

Problem Validation

Find data and information to validate your identified problem. You need to find at least one article from a reputable source that supports your problem.
Supportive Data:

Establishing Measures

How will you know that your changes were an improvement? What data would you want to collect to see if your project yielded improvements? This data could be compared to your supportive data to help determine improvement.
Measures:

Selecting Changes

What things can you do to make those changes happen? In other words, what interventions need to occur to institute a change? Prioritize the change ideas to work on first; i.e. changes that are easiest to implement and will have the largest benefits. Include rationale for selected change ideas. (Rationale should be evidence-based, current, and from a reputable source.)
Change Ideas with Rationale:

QI Presentation Guidelines

Presentations may be of any format; Power Point, poster, YouTube video, informational brochure, or any other format if approved by instructor.
The following must be included in your presentation (Project Criteria)

The goal of the presentation is to share your “story” clearly and succinctly in a manner that flows well together.
