Learning Outcomes
On completion of this assessment and subject, learners will be able to:
1. Use an evidence-based framework to outline the key principles and standards
of clinical governance for safety and quality in the Australian healthcare
system.
2. Examine the process of clinical auditing for continuous practice improvement.
3. Analyse processes for risk and incident management, open disclosure and the
nurse’s role in preventing and managing medical error.

1. Briefly outline the medical error/s that has taken place.
2. Complete a clinical audit following the audit process cycle as stated in the
clinical auditing lecture.
3. Complete the quality improvement template providing:

➢ Project Background- Briefly outline the project including the problem or practice
gap outlined in the article.
➢ Aim – What is the overall aim of the project?
➢ Organisational context – Structures: infrastructure that impacts on quality or
outcomes of care.
➢ Formulate interventions – Compose a detailed description of the implementation
three (3) strategies. Include a theory for why a specific intervention or a group of
interventions was chosen. Your discussion should be supported by academic
references.
➢ Outcomes – Explain the potential outcome of the project.
➢ Evaluation – Describe how to report the findings. Which NSQHS standards it links
to and what committee you report your findings.
➢ Open disclosure – Analyse the importance of open disclosure in this incident.
Support your discussion with academic references.

5. This must be completed a minimum of ten (10) references using the APA 7th
edition referencing style.
