Participation Activity #5 – Poverty Videos:
After watching the 4 videos relating to Poverty in Canada (No Place Called Home; Generation Poor; Poor No More, and Author Who Inspired Maid please complete the Class Activity #5 questions and submit your answers through Blackboard Assessments. These questions are due before the end of class time on the independent study class and will form part of your participation marks.

This 57-minute video offers a very personal look at the struggles faced by a family who live in poverty in Canada
2. Generation Poor

This 27-minute video from 2014 offers a very personal look at the struggles faced by Canadians living in poverty as well as services and supports being provided to help
3. Poor No More

This 52-minute video discussed how the economic and social conditions in Canada have changed over the past thirty years as a result of monetarism, neoliberalism and social welfare retrenchment (previously discussed in this course) and which also have contributed to an increase in the number of working poor Canadians.
4. The Author Who Inspired MAID on Netflix

This 18 minute video is a brief look at a Netflix show that exposes the harsh realities of living below the poverty line in America. Based on Stephanie Land’s memoir, “Maid” follows a young mother’s fight to escape an abusive relationship. The series has attracted a huge audience. The author Stephanie Land speaks with Michel Martin about her journey.
