Write an essay based on your Four-Part Map. That is, explain all the arguments from this map in paragraphs, clearly, engagingly, with good grammar, and
following a standard citation practice. Clear writing involves, among other things, defining important terms and illustrating key ideas with examples. See the
attachment for guidelines on writing a philosophy paper.
Your Essay should contain the following sections. You’re encouraged to label them:
An introductory section with a thesis statement and a preview of the main points of the essay.
Part 1: Present and explain an argument from your chosen article. Don’t object to this argument in this section.
Part 2: Give your own original objection, of your own creation, to the argument you presented in step II.
Part 3: Think about how the author you’ve objected to could best respond to your objection. That is, present the best defense of their argument, against your
objection, you can think of.
Part 4: Explain how the response you discussed in step IV doesn’t work and, so, doesn’t undermine your objection from step III.
A concluding section that summarizes the main points of the Essay.
A bibliography that follows one of the standard formats (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.). You can get information on bibliographies and citations here:
