– There are three different authors for this article. Each of the authors are with the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine, University of Rochester, in Rochester New York. Knox has their PhD, Conwell and Caine both having their MD.
2. Comment on the intended audience. For whom was it written (general public/any reader, subject specialists, college students)? What skill level or education level must the reader have?
– Published on the National Institutes of Health website, the intended audience is most likely for other healthcare professionals seeking information regarding the suicide epidemic. Although attainable to the public, the article uses language that leans towards a higher level of reading required to understand the material.
3. Compare or contrast this work with another you have cited
– This article spends a lot of time comparing the efforts of preventing cardiovasulcar disease to the efforts of prevetning suicide. Stating that health care teams collaboratively came together to create a plan to prevent and lessen heart diseases because it was an all time leading killer in America. Suicide is a leading killer not only in America, but the entire world. Health care teams need to come together to collaboratively come up with ways to prevent and lessen suicide. 4. Discuss how this work explains your selected topic
– This article largely compares CVD (cardiovascular disease) to suicide. Not stating that the two are the same concept, but stating that the two should be taken equally as seriously. Extreme measures have been taken and were taken by professionals to get a hold on CVD. Suicide is killing people everyday just like CVD, and needs to be taken hold of. The following quote suggests the severity for the attention the suicide pandemic needs, “If ever a condition begged for an integrated understanding that takes into account biological, clinical, subjective, and social factors, this suicide prevention is it”. In order to slow down the suicide pandemic, there needs to be a solid understanding of suicide. This article will be able to support my side on the topic by serving as a concept that is easy for most people to comprehend. Being able to compare CVD and suicide puts the concept into terms for many people. It is easy to understand that CVD is killing many people, how to prevent it, and what people need to do moving forward. So, in comparing this to suicide, it will start to allow people to understand the severity of the suicide health crisis.
