Over the past few classes we have have read about integration outcomes in a variety of case contexts. In particular you have read about how different
factors impact the reality of immigrant integration and feelings of belonging in the host country – including the impact of real and perceived discrimination
(Maxwell 2009; Valfort 2018; Shukla and Suleyman 2019), spatial segregation (Bristol-Rhys 2012), everyday forms of ‘inclusion’ and celebration in otherwise
exclusive regimes (Vora and Koch 2015; Koch 2016).
In 500 words or less, please answer the following question (your answer must reference at least 2 of the readings above):
“Immigrant integration is a multidimensional outcome (i.e. social, economic, and political) and according to Rahsaan Maxwell, there are often tradeoffs
between these three dimensions (i.e. doing better on one dimension means doing worse on another). To what extent do you see these tradeoffs emerge in
the readings? And what factors appear most significant in determining the nature of those integration outcomes?”
