Literary Devices

Thinking of the episode of Bluey you watched, list the literary devices you found and explain how the symbol and motif lead to the thematic statement. Here’s an example from another episode of the show:

Symbol: Bike

Motif: Grit/Persistence

Thematic Statement: If you want to learn to do something, you have to be comfortable with failing at first.

Explanation: At the beginning of the episode, Bluey falls off of her bike and says that she gives up. However, Dad persuades her to watch other children struggling at different tasks like putting on backpacks, drinking from a water fountain, and climbing on monkey bars. Over time, through trial and error, each of the children is able to overcome frustration and succeed at their task. At the end of the episode, Bluey gets back on her own symbol of persistence – her bike – knowing that if she gets comfortable with failing at first, she will eventually be able to ride her bike.
