Literary Character Analysis

Paper details
Please write essay with the following instructions using the same character from Leaving Las Vegas, which is
Ben Sanderson.
Please write a 3-page essay discussing the same literary character you wrote about in the previous essay.
This essay will focus on the psychosocial development of personality from a lifespan perspective, specifically
using Erik Erikson’s theory of identity development.
Please format your paper in the following template, answering the following questions, and using the following
sub-headings:
No Introduction
Lifespan Identity Theory: this section should be the longest section of the paper, describing two of Erickson’s
personality “crises” and then applying them to your chosen character. You may select any two of the eight
identity “crises” from Erickson’s lifespan development theory. First, you should provide an overview of a
selected identity “crisis”. Describe its basic tenats and how it explains personality development. Then use
your chosen character as an example, and apply the “crisis” to your character. For example, you might explain
that Bob Wiley ( What About Bob?) is approximately 40 years old and likely (based on his age) in Erickson’s
adulthood stage of development with generativity vs stagnation being the identity “crisis” Bob is facing. You
would describe the generativity vs stagnation “crisis” and possible positive and negative outcomes for Bob.
Then you would describe which of Erickson’s identity “crises” Bob seems to be struggling with in his life,
which likely does not align with his age. Perhaps his personality seems stuck in the initiative vs guilt crisis, and
you would then provide examples and explain why his personality may be struggling to overcome that
particular identity “crisis.”
Conclusion: this section should be one paragraph summarizing and wrapping up your paper.
Your essay should be 3 pages of text, plus a title page and reference page. Your paper should be in proper
APA format
