RESEARCH PROJECT 1: INTERPERSONAL SPACING

Research suggests a number of factors that can influence interpersonal spacing, including:
• Gender
• Familiarity
• Nature of relationship (family, romantic)
• Body language of other person/”vibe”
• Age
• Work roles
• Environment/setting
• Size of space
• Ethnicity
• Time of day
• Clothing type
• Cultural practices
• Noise level
• Etiquette concerns

Steps in Research Project 1
There will be four steps in this research project:
1. Planning & Preparation of Research Plan (5 pts.) – This will be done with your team. Use the guidelines for the Research Plan to guide your discussion. Likely you and your teammates will want to begin by collecting and sharing references for past research on this topic. A form to be completed for your team’s plan is included in the Research Project 1 folder. Submit 1 per team.
2. Posting of data by individual team members in team workspace (2 pts.) – Please note that you may not begin data collection until your plan has been approved by the instructor.
3. Analysis of research data by team members working together in team workspace (3 pts.).
4. Report of Findings (10 pts.) – Completed by each person working on their own. Guidelines for the report also will be available in the Research Project 1 folder.
