For the final project, you’re asked to develop a website/webapp based on an open RFP. This is your
proposal request:
Background
The Institute for Information Distribution (IID) is a consortium of engineers, educators, scientists, and artists
dedicated to the visionary design of digital technologies for information distribution. The Institute is
committed to the development of systems that foster knowledge through engaging experiences. In support
of this mission the IID sponsors a yearly challenge to encourage the production of websites and web
applications that demonstrate innovation in information architecture and user experience.
Proposal Request
For this year’s challenge the IID seeks proposals for cutting-edge, web-based systems devoted to
information design and delivery. The Review Committee is especially interested in projects that explore
innovative uses of chatbots to facilitate and augment user experience.
Project Guidelines
Proposed projects must demonstrate an effective framework for information delivery and provide blueprints
for an intuitive navigation. Projects must also be targeted to a distinct demographic group or groups.
Project prototypes must be implemented in WordPress and feature a chatbot plugin, such as Gigi
Messenger or IBM Watson Conversation, as a functionality of the system. Selected proposals are subject
to review by legal counsel. Thanks to a generous donation from WordPress, IBM, and Facebook there will
be a small award given to selected proposals.
This is an open and competitive process. Final proposals are due Wednesday, May 13th.
For this week’s assignment you are to write about what type of site you’re considering for your project. You
should also determine:
Is there any overlap between site elements for your site?
If so, how will it impact your design?
Which types or elements are the emphases of your site?
This is not a final commitment to the type of site you’re building, it’s just to help you start thinking about the
project. This paper should be no more than one page. It should be in 12-point font and single-spaced
