Name of Class ( Critical Pers on digital society )
Objective:
Analyze a digital society text or phenomenon of your choice, outside of the ones featured in class, using at
least two applicable course tools/theories/heuristics. This assignment allows each student the flexibility to
engage in the theories that interested him/her the most throughout the semester. You will have the option to
either write a 6 – 8 page paper (double-spaced, 12pt Times New Roman, 1 inch margins) conveying your
argument about the text/phenomenon.
Parameters:
– You can choose any part of digital society: from films to video games, from Netflix to Instagram
– You are to choose at least two theories, perspectives, or issues of digital society that were covered
throughout the semester: from postmodernism to political economy, from fandom to surveillance
– Whether you choose the paper option or the project option, you must make a theoretically grounded
argument that explores your topic from multiple perspectives
– Whether you choose the paper option, or the project option, you will write a very short pitch of your
arguments in the Week 14 discussion board
Goals:
– Apply critical and cultural perspectives to a digital society
– Develop the ability to compare various theoretical approaches to digital society by requiring the
incorporation of multiple perspectives
