FDR’s Impact on Polio Research: History of the Birthday Balls in Atlanta

The paper should be approximately 10-15 pages long (2500-3500 words, not counting citations or bibliography). Papers should have a coherent thesis which describes the contents of the paper, an introduction and a conclusion, and detailed citations. Your paper should cover the relevant literature as well as your own research on your topic. In other words, include a review and analysis of the literature on your topic (historiography). Tell your reader what other historians have said about your topic. Then provide your analysis of your topic based on primary sources. You should have at least five academic sources for the historiography component. Bear in mind that it should be thorough. Here is a suggested organization for your paper: INTRODUCTION Introduce topic generally; last sentence of first paragraph must be your thesis which links your paper contents together HISTORIOGRAPHY Secondary sources only – analysis and not summary; think about the different ways the authors approached this topic; why there are differences; what the context of the works are, etc. YOUR RESEARCH This is your research, based on primary documents. You must provide critical analysis of your primary sources, properly cited, in order to build an argument (thesis). Please take the time to talk to me about your research – I am available to help! COMPARISON/ANALYSIS How does your research compare/contrast with the historians’ accounts? Certainly, your research is very brief and does not get into the topic like they did, but you should have found some overall patterns or themes or ideas when you looked at your materials. Why the differences, if any? CONCLUSION Summarize the main ideas you have found and worked on.
