You will write a properly-formatted 750-1000 word essay about The Great Gatsby and the American Dream.

Narrow your topic down to a more specific topic that will form the driving message of your essay.

For example: The topic, “Irony in The Great Gatsby” is too general and will result in an essay that lacks focus. “Fitzgerald’s use of irony to heighten the sense of tragedy in The Great Gatsby” is a sufficiently narrow topic

Create an outline for your essay. The outline should include your topic, a thesis, and 3-5 subtopics (one per paragraph). 5. Write a rough draft of your essay.

Write a final draft, including proper MLA citations for all quotes. The final draft should be according to MLA formatting standards — 12 point font, double-spaced, with properly indented paragraphs and a title. Any sources must be cited properly and included in a formal MLA works cited page.
