1. Discuss the development of highlife music in Ghana. What, where, and how did various
musical/cultural elements from different parts of the world come together? Include in your
answer: types of highlife (at least 7), Kumasi Trio, E.T. Mensah, hip-life.
2. Discuss how various global cities impacted Fela Kuti and the development of Afrobeat
music. Include at least: Lagos, Accra, LA, London; Black Power, jazz, highlife, and
protest/politics.
