Exercise Physiology Case Study

Scope of Assignment:
This project is meant to apply the foundational aspects of physiology and specific application principles to an individually selected or assigned subject. Each student will be required to synthesize the pertinent physiological information that is relevant to provide a sound understanding of their subject’s needs as well as provide a detailed analysis regarding the needs of this individual to meet established goals and objectives. This case study is not to be built on anecdotes (“I think, I feel, I believe”), but rather scientifically researched and founded information that provides a path forward for success.
Expected Case Study Elements:
Introduction:
The Who – Details about the subject (age, sex, weight, body composition, etc.):
Provide ALL relevant descriptive information that would impact their program or intervention design.
Subject Identifying Information:
• Sex: male
• Name – Timothy Bell
• Age: 18
• Body Weight: 162
• Height: 5’11
• Athlete/Non-Athlete?: athlete
• Sport: basketball
• Context for the Intervention: subject wants to prep for the next season of basketball at an elite level to hand a standout/potential award winning season
• Needs/Goals: subject would like to have more explosion in their game, subject would like to add more inches to his vertical, subject complains of the rate of fatigue he experiences late in games
Purpose and Justification:
The What – Information regarding the goals and objectives of the program or intervention:
What is the problem, what needs to be fixed, what are the goals and objectives?
Programming Principles
The How – What will you be doing to address “the what”:
DETAILS! (Specific application of training and exercise concepts to meet the needs, goals, objectives of the individual).
What energy systems will be affected during training? What body systems will be attacked during this training program?

Application and Synthesis
The Why – Why did you approach this intervention this way?:
What does the research say? Age or sex specific needs? Nutritional deficiencies? Why was the exercises chosen for the program instead of another?
