Using published sets of SEL and SECD standards with developmental benchmarks and your knowledge of an age group you know well from experience and
assignment 4, you will compare and critique sets of standards for this age group in this assignment and blend, trim, edit, and shape them into a new set to
your liking.
Study copies of the K-12 SEL standards from Illinois (2004), the K-12 SECD standards from Kansas (2012), the SECD standards from Character.org
(https://www.character.org/model-standards), and the PK-12 standards in Vessels’ Core Curriculum for SECD (1998). Please use link for character.org and

evaluating the content validity, developmental appropriateness, and completeness of the four sets of standards for one age group, grade level, or grade
cluster using your knowledge of child development and best practices in SEL and CE. Compare the four sets of standards in search of similarities,
differences, and gaps for the age group or grade you selected or teach. Consider the following questions in your evaluations.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of each set?
How might themes in the sets overlap? Is there a need to collapse similar standards across sets into new standards with blended rewording?
What are the differences in terms of language?
Should the sets of standards be added together or compiled wholly or in part exactly as written?
Is there overlap suggesting the need to collapse similar standards across sets into new standards with blended and reconciled rewording?
Synthesize your evaluations to develop an original list of standards for one grade level by drawing from the four sets of standards. Your new standards
should reflect additions, exclusions, and revisions from the resource lists. Your set should be original in some way.
Submit your curricular product in a course paper and include a narrative descriiption of the process, the resources you used, and any feedback you received
from peer reviewers
