Unit 3
Social media has to lead to influence and cause many effects to people all over the world. People from various parts of the world have shown the impact
social media has on them. Through social media, people are learning and getting different things. The spread of different cultures of different parts of the
world has also been spread through social media. The purpose of this paper is to write a research strategy on the effects of social media.
Qualitative research is one research method that could be used in our case study on the effects of social media on people. The method involves focusing on
getting data through conversational and open-ended communication with the targeted audience. To obtain the data, one could use an interview. This will be
interviewing people differently based on their age group. The age groups will be divided according to their social media usage (Burnette, Kwitowski &
Mazzeo,2017).
The age group that uses social media the most is the people between 15years and 30 years old. Most of these people are young people in society. The
second group is the age between 31 years to 45 years. Most of these people are busy with their families and work, and thus, their social media is limited, but
they still use it. The other age group is the group between 46 years and above. Most of these people are retired and very free. They use social media but not
as much as the other two groups since they cannot keep up with the current social media affairs and topics since the language used on social media is hard
for them to understand.
Social media has changed people of all ages in different ways. Some people have changed for the better, and others have changed negatively. Some people
have learned various things on social media, which in one way or the other, has changed their perception of society and judgment on things in life. To
understand these changes and effects, using the qualitative research method in both interviews or the questionnaire will help understand how different
people have been affected, whether negatively or positively, by social media (Allcott et al.,2020).
Some of the questions should be asked during the interview or in the questionnaire because most of these changes are evident in many people. The
questions asked should also stick to the topic of discussion and not veer off to the privacy of individuals as not to make them feel conflicted. In addition,
allowing the people being interviewed to discuss will help them diverge their information, and sharing will make many people open up or understand what the
interview requires.
The questions to be asked include: the social media platforms they prefer the most and why? Reasons as to why they began using social media and why they
still use till today? What kind of social media topics did they like the most? How has social media influenced their day-to-day life? Has social media
influenced them negatively? If yes, how? Has social media influenced them positively? If yes, how? Has social media affected the way they interact with
others in their daily life? Has social media affected their families negatively or positively? Let them state these various method(Akram & Kumar,2017).
In conclusion, combine the similarities between their answers and come up with a conclusion on ways through which social media has impacted people of
various age groups. This will help change and improve the social media topics in the future to keep society positive and not affect social media negatively
and make the lives of people unbearable. The best method to change and impact social media positively is through social media. Social media’s influence on
people is very severe, and many of them cannot live without social media because it is part of their life now and something they cannot do without.
