INTRODUCTION
a. Research Aim/Purpose (15 points)
1. Give an introduction to the paper.
2. State your general (overall) research purpose/problem. If you have a research question(s), you will
need to list it/them here.
3. Make sure that your purpose/problem gives the educational context for the problem.
4. Provide any needed operational definitions (such as definition of English past tense).
II. Review of Literature (15 points)
1. Provide background information on Error analysis in general. 2. Explain the difference between errors and
mistakes.
III. METHODOLOGY (40 points)
a. Participants (Subjects) (10 points)
1. Give your sample size.
2. Describe the population of interest; i.e., provide demographic information about the population
from which you planned to sample (age range, sex distribution, ethnic breakdown, location, and
other characteristics that you deem important to your study).
3. Describe how your sample were selected; specify what type of sampling procedure were used.
b. Instrumentation (10 points)
1. Provide a general description of all instruments that you plan to use in your study.
A. If you will use an established instrument, report existing evidence of reliability and validity appropriate to
your study and how you plan to establish them for your specific study.
B. If you plan to design your own instrument, give a brief description of the instrument and describe how you
will examine appropriate reliability and validity.
C. provide a copy in the Appendix (if possible).

c. Procedures (10 points)
1. Describe how the study was carried out: what was done, when, where, and how.

someone else should be able to read your study and repeat it in exactly the same way.
d. Data analysis (10 points)
1. Describe how data were analyzed. (i.e., using Models of error analysis such as Corder, 1973,
1975, 1981; Ellis, 1994; Gass & Selinker, 2008).
IV. Results/Discussion (20 points)
1. What were the results of your study? Here, you should answer your research questions.
2. Provide a descriptive analysis of your data.
3. Use tables and figures to display the data.
4. Provide a summary of the major findings as well as general conclusions.
5. Include implications for teachers, learners or researchers.
IIV. Conclusion (5 points)
1. In your conclusion, address the “So What?” of this research. That is, why does what you are
investigating matter as more than an academic exercise? Why should your audience want to read it? Why
does it matter?
APPENDICES (5 points)
1. You must include the entire instrument tool to receive credit.
