Essay 3: A Proposal

An analysis and proposed solution for an assigned topic (choose from the article links below under “Sample Topics”) on a current issue or cultural/societal conflict (1,700 – 2,000 words or 5 to 6 pages). A proposal essay identifies a problem and suggests a solution to that problem with dedicated research to support it. Your goal is to persuade the reader (using ethos, pathos, and logos) that your proposal is not only viable, but one worth pursuing.

Length: 1,700-2,000 words (5 to 6 pages)
Required sources: 5-7 (at least 5 academic/scholarly sources)
Note: Papers that fall short of the required length or have insufficient sources will be marked down accordingly.

PAPERS/ESSAYS:

All papers should be typed in: Modern Language Association Style (MLA):

12-point font
New Times Roman
Titled; Numbered
Doubled-spaced with one-inch margins
Include a works cited according to MLA standards
Points will be deducted for spelling and grammar errors, incorrect MLA formatting, tardiness, and failure to meet the length requirements (i.e. 500 words). Please remember I am looking for meaningful topics and a developing thought process demonstrated in critical thinking skills, not book reports or summaries. All students are welcome to ask questions, make an appointment with either me or the writing lab, and seek assistance if the writing process becomes challenging.
