What do you need to do for this assessment?
Task:
Your Individual Investigation & Research Reflection will be made up of 1) a Reflective Journal; 2) an Evaluative Summary. You will write a first draft (formative) and a final draft of this assessment and you will receive feedback from your tutor after the first draft to support your final draft.
In your reflective journal you will compare a chosen historical, cultural or social component of the UK to similar instance in your home country using 4 individual sources. In your evaluative summary, you will refer to the journal and comment in regard to the overall topic area.
Your journal will be based on an issue from one of the following topics:
• The British Education System
• Immigration in Britain,
• The British Family
• British Culture
• The British Economy
You should not only describe the social or cultural issue but evaluate the impact on everyday life.
You may also choose to incorporate a variety of media applications to deliver content, e.g. images, data and/or embedded links, videos ..etc.

3. Choose specific issue of the topic like education system in Britain- high school.

Reflective Journal
You will be given/find one source per week from Week 5 on chosen topics (4 sources overall).
You must produce a reflective piece of writing (250-300 words per source), summarising the key
arguments, issues and significances.
You will upload the written summary onto the VLE by the beginning of the next lecture.
• Describe a chosen cultural or social issue in Britain and your country today
• Evaluate and reflect on four sources from this chosen topic
• Consider the impact of the chosen topic on both countries’ history and/or society
Evaluative Summary
You will use the reflective journal summaries for the 4 sources, relevant sources of reference and your
own opinion to write an evaluative summary on your chosen topic as a whole.
• Write a critical analysis of the chosen topic using the reflective journal to inform arguments
• Articulate an opinion and justify with reasoning, evidence and reference to appropriate sources
• Support arguments with researched evidence in writing

This is an individual assessment so you should not work with any other student.

The suggested structure for the Evaluative Summary is:
• Description and explanation of the chosen aspect/issue of society
• Its cultural and historical significance
• A critical analysis of the various issues within this aspect of society and your opinion in reference to sources and your journal reflections
• A conclusion drawing together your main observations and supported opinion

How will this assessment be marked?
You will be assessed in 3 main areas:
Content (50 marks)
(understanding of issues and debates; identification of cultural and historical significance of the issues and their impact on society; critical insight and supported opinion in both countries)
Research & Support (20 marks)
(reference to a number of relevant sources to support your observations)
Academic Integrity (15 marks)
(correct use of citations, references and quotes; genuine representation of data/facts)
Academic Skills (15 marks)
(presentation, academic style, language & coherence, use of media)
How will you get feedback?
You will receive feedback on two occasions. Around Week 11 you will receive feedback from your tutor in relation to your first draft. You should use this feedback to improve your final draft in Week 15. You will also receive feedback once your final draft has been marked.
