1-2 page outline, project proposal, or partial draft

a basic outline or description of your final project (intro/thesis statement, three body paragraphs, conclusion) and at least three bibliographic sources.

4-6 Pages of Final Draft
•    Choose a topic that you are excited about researching. The best papers come from something that sparks your interest.
•    The topic you choose must fall in the range of Asian American Art, or American Art and its relationship to race (if it is the latter, please present to me your idea ahead of time if possible)
•    The more specific the paper, the better. For example, if you choose to write about one artist, you might think about limiting the scope of your research to a group of works or even a single work by that artist.
•    The best papers include a strong thesis statement on the topic in question. I do not expect you to arrive at an entirely innovative perspective, especially on a topic with a rich biography. However, I do expect you to make a strong case for you ideas based on careful research and writing.
•    Trust your own vocabulary. When you need to use a term that is new to you, or a term specific to art history, be sure to define it in ways that are relevant to your topic.
•    Feel free to use any reading from class and any other relevant text. You will benefit from spending some time in the library accessing books and periodicals. If some of your research includes online sources, be sure they are valid sources.
•    Last but not least, please feel free to ask me anything about your paper. I am happy to answer questions about resources, the writing process, or anything else that might come up.
