Essay Two Topic
We are discussing stories surrounding Man within Beast, Man/Beasts, and The Beast within Man. I
want you to pick one story from our text, novel, movie, series, graphic novel, etc. that involves a
character that somehow fits one of these descriptions and argue why. In your introparagrah, you will
need to define both terms (Man, Beast), along with introducing questions which will lead to your
thesis statement.
Other stories may not be so clear cut. Use the specific theme you are choosing and attack arguments
for how your story doesn’t fit in the other two themes despite that leap seeming easy. You could also
approach how your character fits all three at certain points of the text or series of texts (see trilogies or
franchises).
Objectives for this paper:
A. Four full pages. Carry over onto a fifth page.
B. Three cited sources. Three separate parenthetical citations for each source and each source
correctly cited on the Works Cited page.
C. Follow MLA formatting rules.
D. Describe your character, what text they are from, and boldly state how they are one of the
three options in your thesis statement. Use evidence in your body paragraphs to support
your claim. You can also use evidence to explore how your character is not any of the other
two choices.
E. First-person is allowed, but consider if it strengthens your argument or not. Only use
first-person if you believe it helps your argument. This also goes for using third-person.
F. Due on March 21, 2022 on D2L as a PDF. Points will be deducted if it is not turned in on
time or in the correct format. The assignment is due before the start of class. If it is closed, it
is late and points will be deducted (as stated in the syllabus).
