At the Sioux Gateway Airport, the ARFF services are provided for by the Iowa Air National Guard (ANG), and the emergency response is managed through the
Woodbury County Disaster and Emergency Services Communications Center in Sioux City (not co-located on the airport). Part of the Emergency Response
plan requires four Sioux City Fire Department vehicles to be dispatched to the airport in support of ARFF operations.
The aircraft can only be controlled by throttle manipulation; so basically, it’s not controllable. (Note: it’s amazing the pilots were able to do what they did!
There are 296 persons on the aircraft [crew and passengers]).
