An aspect of documentation is to be able to put into words what you are inspecting and palpating on a patient (asymmetry, inflamed, swollen, redness,
tenderness on palpation etc.,). Inspection and palpation skills are fundamental basics in documentation in the Objective section of a SOAP note. A joint that
is commonly missed in assessment is the TMJ. As a doctor, if you only have a hammer in your tool bag, then everything you treat looks like a nail. If a patient
walks in to your clinic with a headache and or facial/jaw pain make sure your history and exam includes evaluation of the temporomandibular joint.
Write a minimum 300-500 word reflection essay on your understanding of TMD and how you plan to diagnose a TMJ dysfunction and how you will manage
the case? Will you require X-rays for the diagnosis? What other healthcare provider could you collaborate with?
