The student is to identify the culture of the main character in the book and find one peer-reviewed journal article that describes this dominate culture. Make use of the White Library and search for scholarly peer-reviewed social work journal articles; the internet and websites are not acceptable sources.
Utilize Chapter 6 in the textbook to write the paper. Provide a concise introduction to the paper, an overview of what the reader will learn, and a very brief overview of the storyline in the book. This introduction is to be no longer than one (1) double-spaced page.
Students will critically think from a mezzo level and describe the main character from a cultural, spiritual, family, and physical environment perspective. Write about the cultural heritage, tradition, way of life, social adjustment and learned modes of behavior, values, and meanings. Critically thinking from a macro level, students will describe the impact on the main character from communities, social institutions, or social movements. In each of the storylines the main character is faced with responding to a new culture or way of life. Describe their assimilation, accommodation, acculturation, or bicultural socialization.
In conclusion, each student will provide a discussion section that synthesizes their learning about this culture and way of life along with the main character’s human agency to take charge of their life including gains and losses.
