Introduction and Overview: Research/Investigate a “culture” or group that is different from your own (i.e.
a different race, gender, sexual orientation, age group, economic class, or religious upbringing). The major
part of your research will include interviewing someone in the field of education from that “culture” or
group in order to gain understanding of how they view the world and our educational system based on
their perspective as a member of that culture. You will need to draw up relevant questions in order to do
the above. For your paper: APA Format, cover page, abstract, subtitles, narrative summary,

1.) Introduce your topic area. Describe what your research process was, who you researched and why.
What questions did you ask and how did your interviewee respond? (1-2 pages). What is your
subject’s view of education and does it differ from your own?
2.) Describe what you have learned about the culture you studied. What you expected and what
surprised you? What questions do you still have? The object is to describe a view of the world
that is not your own but that you have come to learn about. (2-3 pages)
3.) With your new cultural knowledge and awareness in mind, build a descriiption of how your
information relates to education. How does your subject view our educational system? How might
our system be different? (2-3 pages)
4.) Describe how your view of school and your position may different from the perspective of the
“culture” you have studied and why (1-2 pages).
5.) In your conclusion, use the situation above to compare and contrast your real cultural outlook from
that which you researched. Has your perspective as an educator changed at all? Was your approach
in dealing with the actual event different from that of the real you? (1 – ½ pages)
