Cultivation of Goji Berries (Lycium Barbarum, and Lycium Ruthenicum) in the Maltese Islands: an analysis of the main nutrients and vitamins found in fresh berries.

The first phase of the study will involve a literature review of the history and origin of Lycium barbarum and
Lycium ruthenicum. The first part of the literature review shall include a description of the cultivation
practices and the yields of this crop in the main areas of production. Plantations of goji berries in the
Mediterranean region or other areas with similar climatic conditions to the Maltese islands will be included in
this study. The second part of the literature review shall include a review of scientific papers and on the
chemical composition of the berries, mainly the vitamins and minerals.
